Hi! I am SO bored of doing reviews, so I decided to show you how to write a book!
Step 1. Choose what genre of book you would like to write about!
You could write a fantasy book, or a murder, or an adventure story! You could even write an autobiography! Anything you want!
Step 2. Where in the world?
Next, you have to choose where you set your book. You can set it anywhere from Asia to Africa and you could even set it on a completely different planet!
Step 3. Pick a hero and a villain!
After you have finished picking your setting, time to choose a hero and villain. Most books have a protagonist and antagonist (a fancy name for a hero and a villain). Take Harry Potter, for example. The hero is Harry Potter but the villain is the evil Lord Voldemort. Make the hero a likeable character, so your reader will be on that characters side. Also, try and make your hero have a weakness or two, or the story will get boring. Your villain should be evil and should try and get in the way of the hero. Is your villain too bad? Maybe he/she has a soft spot for animals and keeps lots of them as pets!
Step 4. Create a plot!
Now, create a plot for your book. I sometimes use something called a storyhill, which helps you make a basic plot for your story to run along. You draw a hill on your paper and the left side is the beginning and the right side the end. The peak is the middle and that’s usually where there’s a problem. Maybe your character has to find a hidden object before it’s too late? Or maybe your hero needs to save someone or something? The choice is yours!
Step 5. Get it down on paper!
Finally, write it down! Your story will be amazing, and after that, you could even adapt it into a show and do it in front of your friends and family! Maybe, one day, your book could even get published!
Summarise the story in four or five sentences!
Ballet Shoes is about three sisters called Pauline, who loves acting, Petrova, who spends most of her time fixing cars, and Posy, who would dance all day if se could! One day, they get asked by a lady called Theo Dane and she tells them she is a teacher at Madame Fidolia’s Academy of Dancing and Stage Training. They take part in lots of shows and at the end of the book, Pauline sets out to become a film star, Posy trains with the great dancer Manoff in Czechlovakia but Petrova flies aeroplanes and becomes a great explorer. I love the bit where it’s Christmas and they all get watches and white organdie dresses, Pauline’s with a blue sash, Petrova’s red and Posy’s pink. It was a brilliant book and I really enjoyed reading it!
Who is your favourite character?
My favourite character is Petrova because she is different from Pauline and Posy and she loves engineering and building. We also have similar interests, though I like dancing more than she does!
Who is your least favourite character?
I have NO idea! They are all nice!
Did you change your mind about any of the characters later on in the book?
I definitely changed my mind about Pauline! She was nice at the start, but later on she behaved not very nicely towards other people in the middle of the book, and then at the end, I liked her again!
How many stars would you rate the book out of five?
Five!! It was a brilliant book and I couldn’t stop reading it!
Can you summarise the story in four or five sentences?
A long time ago, there was a country called Cornucopia that was the happiest in the world. Everything was perfect – until a monster whom people called the Ickabog ( the Ickabog came from a word – Ichabod – which means ‘no glory ‘ or ‘ the glory has departed ‘ ) started eating people’s sheep. The king at the time was called King Fred the Fearless ( he managed to catch and kill a wasp by himself – if you didn’t count 5 footmen and the butcher boy ) and he had two friends, Lord Spittleworth and Lord Flapoon. Lord Spittleworth had an evil plan – to kidnap and kill people or put them in the dungeons so people thought the Ickabog had eaten them and then the evil Lord would raise the Ickabog taxes so he would get more money. Fortunately, 4 children ( Bert, Martha, Roderick and Daisy ) got kidnapped by the real Ickabog and realised that the Ickabog was actually harmless ( and after a LOT of persuading ) everybody in Cornucopia believed them and even set up a town called Ickaby ( between the cities of Kurdsburg and Jeroboam ) in its honour.
Who is your favourite character?
I like Daisy Dovetail because she is the one who felt sorry for the Ickabog and discovered that the Ickabog was harmless.
Who is your least favourite character?
I dislike Lord Spittleworth because he is mean, cruel and greedy.
At the beginning of the book, did you think the Ickabog was a nice character or not? Why?
I thought the Ickabog was a nasty character from the way J.K Rowling told it.
How did J.K Rowling make you think the Ickabog was nasty?
She used other people’s speech to say things like” Hey, guess what, the Ickabog stole my sheep last night “.
How many stars would you give this book out of five?
Five, definitely. It was a brilliant read and the story was very gripping – I loved it.
Can you summarise the story in four or five sentences?
In the first book, two girls called Daisy and Hazel find their science teacher’s body in the Gym Hall. They set up a Detective Society and try to find out who did it, and why. In the second book, Arsenic for Tea, Daisy and Hazel are at Daisy’s home – Fallingford. It is Daisy’s birthday and one of the guests have been murdered. It was a really gripping story and I loved both of the books.
Who was your favourite character in the first book? Why?
In the first book, my favourite character was Hazel because she is funny and clever.
Who was your favourite character in the second book? Why?
I have two favourite characters. Hazel again, ( for the same reasons – see above) and Daisy because she is funny and she likes reading.
Who is your least favourite character in the first book? Why?
I don’t really like Lavinia because she is quite spiteful.
Who is your least favourite character in the second book? Why?
I don’t really like Bertie because he is quite rude.
Have you learnt anything about how to solve crimes?
Ooo, that is a good question! Yes, always keep your eyes open for clues and information.
Can you summarise the story in three or four sentences?
There were four children called Rosalind, Smash, Robbie and Maudie ( the baby ). One day they go to a wood called Oxshott woods and they find the Psammead* in a sandpit. They make lots of wishes and most of them go wrong. Five Children and It and Four Children and It are different but I like them both the same.
* A Psammead is an immortal animal, who was around since the dinosaurs. He is brown and furry with eyes on stalks. He is a sand fairy who grants wishes.
Who is your favourite character in the story?
I like Rosalind because she is quiet and timid and loves reading books ( like me! )
Who is your least favourite character in the story?
My least favourite character is Smash because she is shouty and selfish and spiteful.
Do you change your mind about Smash throughout the rest of the story?
I do. She is all of the above at the start but later on in the book she starts being nice. I think it is because she is living with the other children. She gradually starts being nice like them.
What are the Psammead’s personality traits?
He is a bit strict but quite nice to some people ( including Rosalind! )
